Regardless of age, launching a business why working a full-time job is hard.
There are a lot of obstacles that will get in your way:
- thinking of your ideas
- talking with customers
- developing a marketing plan
- long nights working on critical tasks
All of this while working your full-time job, spending time with your family, kids functions, quality time with your spouse, etc.
You only get 24 hours in a day, 8 of those you work, you need a good nights sleep.
With limited time in a day how do you launch a business while keeping your day job?
In order to launch a business while working a full-time job your must be able to follow a blueprint that has already worked.
I have personally launched a business while working a full-time job by using these very tips I'm about to share with you.
They are easy to implement and should become a part of your steps to launching a successful business.

Get Mentally Ready
What's the hardest thing you have ever done in your life?
Starting a business is sure to be at the top of your list once you get started.
Starting your own business is a huge commitment, with huge changes to your skills and lifestyle.
Level of education, tests, or any certifications can determine the success of your starting your own business.
It's all up to you and how mentally prepared you are.
Without the right mindset starting a business is not in your favor.
Below is 7 reasons with a few of them confirming that the right mindset is critical to your success.
How do you get mentally prepared to start a business?
Getting mentally prepared is all about...
transitioning from a consumer to a creator mindset.
embracing uncertainty and your fears.
making difficult and hard decisions.
Ok with making continuous mistakes and learning from them.
This is what you will have to mentally prepared for as you start and grow your business while working your full-time job.
Trust me... there are more challenges that you must mentally prepare for but let's break these down:
1 - Transitioning from consumer to creator
We're accustomed to buying and consuming just about everything put in front of us.
Especially with all the technology and innovation around us, it's easy to get sucked in as a consumer.
We download apps, buy new gadgets off infomercials, and anywhere else we can provide a credit card.
It's important that you development the mindset that consumers pay for creators to live the life they desire by design.
You must not feel bad or ashamed for creating products or services then accepting payment.
Many entrepreneurs starting out get hung up on this fundamental thing and it's critical to not let that be you.
As a creator you should think about why people buy, processes behind people buying and opportunities missing with what they buy.
Shifting to this mindset will help you to start doing work that matters to your and to the world.
2 - Embracing uncertainty and fears
Are you scared of heights, getting into the ocean, or riding roller coasters?
In our everyday lives we are conditioned to stay away from the things that we fear the most.
Starting a business is the exact opposite.
The things that comes with starting a business you need to do more of and learn to embrace them.
It is critical that you get used to being uncomfortable and not knowing what you're doing.
Regardless if it's doing research, talking to customers, learning new tools, or launching your product or service.
All entrepreneurs have to do new and unfamiliar things for the first time.
If you 'truly' want to start a business so will you.
How do you go about embracing your fears and uncertainties?
Pretend You're Good at it already
This is sort of like "fake it until you make it", but that approach is more about deceiving others.
Pretending you're already good at something is about building confidence for yourself.
If you do this enough times you'll eventually get good at it truly.
Write Your Fears Down
Writing your goals down is critical but there is a beginning and an end.
But writing your fears down is usually the foundation of why you're not doing the 'things' that you want to achieve in life.
In this case it's starting a business.
Write all of the fears that's poisoning your mind and stopping you from starting a business.
Break down each of those fears by writing down what they are stopping you from doing within your business.
Are you afraid to write a blog post?
Shoot a video?
Talking to some potential customers?
Write these all down then post them on your mirror in your bathroom.
This is the place where you go to first thing in the morning to brush your teeth, shave, do your hair.
You can't hide from it or miss it.
I have fears posted on my mirror to this day and use this approach to completely diminish any fears that I face with any of my projects.
Be OK with Making Mistakes
One of our greatest struggles as humans is the fear of being wrong, making mistakes, and failing.
Fear that people will not accept you, fear people will not find you intelligent, or fear of clowns (my wife)....
This fear holds so much power because it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
When you're starting a business, it's critical that your mindset is the exact opposite.

Your business ideas or decisions will be left for dead due to fear of trying and failing.
The more you sift through business ideas and making decisions, is the best strategy to kill your fears.
This is your most critical step to launching your business while working a full time job.
You will encounter the same types of thoughts from your co-workers:
- "You have a great job, why start a business?"
- "There is no way you will have time to start a business."
- "Do you realize how many businesses fail?"
These are the mindsets of people where fear is running their life causing them to live life not on their terms.
While on your journey to starting a business there will be lows along the way. And this type of thinking will ooze back into your mind.
But it's critical that you not allow it to 'control' your mind and take over.
Remember this is not about whether or not you will succeed or fail. It's the fact that you will fail many more times than you succeed.
Like a determined box seeking to be a world champion, you must have the mindset to keep getting back up even though you have fear.
Planning and Organization
Starting a business is by no means an easy task, but starting a business while working full-time is even harder.
We all know that part of our planning includes eating breakfast, maybe getting the kids ready for school or even exercising.
But when you're starting a business, you will have to make some sacrifices to get all the necessary things done.
That all starts with proper planning and being more organized.
What's the key purpose for daily planning when starting a business?
Your daily planning session is your chance to:
- review your progress on your specific goals that you've set;
- set your daily agenda
- prioritize your tasks for the day
You can't go wrong with what method you use to start planning, but it's critical just to have a plan.
There are many options how to start by using apps, various software, etc.
I use somewhat of an old school pen & paper method called the Daily Bar Bullet Journal
This method will allow you to account for both you work-related and startup business-related tasks that you have to complete throughout the day:
Start by documenting your day from the time you get up until the time you go to bed.
Yes, you should start planning when you sleep.
If you're not accustomed to following a plan today, this may feel awkward in the beginning.
But if you truly want to start a business, then you will push through and get comfortable.
Before you establish a plan, it's important that you include a few changes to your daily routine:
- get up earlier (like 4 or 4:30AM)
- read or listen to something inspiring for about 30 minutes
- get your critical tasks done early
- create a positive vibe to set the tone for the day
What are some things you want to put on your plan?
Reading or listening to something inspiring
If this is you today, then you ingesting all the negative noise and requests taking you away from tasks to start your business.
Ultra-successful people read, this includes those that are entepreneurs.
- Bill Gates reads about 1 book per week
- Mark Cuban reads about 3 hours per day
- Mark Zuckerberg reads about 2 books per week
The list of these examples could go on-and-on that you should model you daily reading and inspiration after.
You don't have to do what they are doing today, but it's important for you to start somewhere.
It's important for you to start somewhere and decide what works for you.
When you're launching a business you must develop the habit of networking and collaborating with people.
This could be potential customers, developers, graphic designers, partnerships, and many others.
With a busy schedule, you must fit this time in somewhere.
If you're working the traditional 9-to-5 hours, then you have to fit that in before, during, or after work.
Doesn't matter when, you must put it on your daily plan.
Your personal development is one of the most critical aspects of starting a business.
The knowledge and skills that you lack today can become much easier in the future through the amount of personal development that you put in.
"Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development."
If you ignore personal development, then you're literally killing your chances of starting a successful business.
It's a part of the process.

Follow a Blueprint
Starting a business involves a lot of moving parts and pieces, some more exciting then others.
Analyzing ideas or problems, validating ideas, business or domain names, setting up you website, etc.
There are two important aspects to get start (maybe 3):
- just get started
- don't reinvent the wheel
- think outside the box
